BASF Opens New Facility in Michigan

June 21, 2023

BASF Corp. has officially opened its Biodegradation and Microplastics Center of Excellence in Wyandotte, Michigan.

BASF’s new laboratory primarily will support biodegradable product development in the food service and packaging, agriculture, detergents, cleaning, and cosmetics industries. The Wyandotte lab will also provide analytical testing on the disintegration performance of compostable materials and the biodegradation performance of novel chemistries, offering insights on microplastics and the behavior of plastics through their life cycles.

“The Wyandotte site houses a broad range of business, manufacturing, and research and development activities within BASF. I’m excited to see the center at the site furthering BASF’s support to our customers and our company’s goals toward a sustainable future,” said Benjamin Knudsen, BASF vice president of research in North America. “I am convinced our Center of Excellence differentiates BASF as a regional leader in biodegradable and microplastic product solutions because our expertise is committed toward shaping sustainable innovations and supporting circular economy strategies.”
