Green Seal Launches Hand Sanitizer Certification

Retail stores across the country faced hand sanitizer shortages at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. This shortage lead to many manufacturers producing hand sanitizers for the first time, with some adding hazardous and toxic ingredients like methanol and 1-propanol. Facility managers and employers working to keep their building inhabitants and workers safe were unsure which products were safe to use. A list of hand sanitizers to avoid created by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to grow.

Recently, Green Seal launched a hand sanitizer certification standard to protect consumers and workers from harmful products in the hand sanitizer marketplace. Green Seal hand sanitizers are verified to meet strict performance testing requirements and rigorous screening for carcinogens, reproductive toxins, skin irritants, phthalates, parabens, and contaminants. The certification standard “provides consumers, purchasers and facility managers a simple way to identify safer products with uncompromising hand hygiene performance.”
