ISSA Details New Overtime Rules
On September 24, the U.S. Department of Labor announced a final rule on overtime rules for salaried employees. ISSA has detailed what is changing and how it might impact our members. Employers must comply with the new rules on January 1, 2020.
Federal Government Funding Extended Until November 21
U.S. President Donald J. Trump signed a continuing resolution into law, which will keep the federal government funded until November 21. This includes the continued funding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency activities including the registration of pesticide and antimicrobial products under the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act.
Industries Expected to Seek Exemptions From California Contractor Law
California became the first state to specifically tighten the standards stating workers in the gig economy can be classified as independent contractors. Now that the bill has been signed into law, industries are looking for ways to be exempted from it. According to the article, “Hiring workers as employees rather than contractors can add 20% to 30% to labor costs.” This issue could impact the residential cleaning industry.
