Unilever to Drop Fossil Fuels From Cleaning Products

September 2, 2020

Unilever Plc has announced the company will eliminate the use of fossil fuels in the production of its cleaning products by 2030.

Unilever will invest more than US$1 billion to switch production from using gas- and oil-based formulas to ingredients created from biological sources such as plants and algae, CNN reports. The company will finance biotechnology research and carbon dioxide utilization as well as increase the usage of biodegradable and water-efficient product formulations. The shift is part of Unilever’s overall strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero by 2039.
