White House Wants Federal Workers to Stop Working Remotely

August 17, 2023

U.S. President Joe Biden recently called for his administration to return federal employees to onsite working.

In an email sent earlier this month, White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients asked federal employees to begin working in their offices full time beginning this fall, stating “it is critical to the well-being of our teams and will enable us to deliver better results for the American people,” Axios reports.

According to a recent Government Accountability Office report, 17 of the 24 federal agencies currently use, on average, an estimated 25% or less of the capacity of their physical headquarters.

“ISSA applauds the Biden Administration’s public efforts to bring federal workers back to the office this fall. While hybrid and remote work is here to stay, there are many benefits to the economy and the workplace by encouraging workers back to the office,” said ISSA Director of Government Affairs John Nothdurft. “From economic benefits to greater productivity and increased local tax revenues, the federal government’s return to office efforts is an important signal to the U.S. economy. The cleaning industry stands ready and well positioned to ensure workers are returning to clean and healthy workplaces.”
